I believe that one of the keys to staying young is minimizing the amount of toxins we expose ourselves to on a daily basis. Toxins are almost unavoidable in our modern world. They’re in our soil, water, air, food, clothes, and household products. So we need to phase out the toxins within our control. One of the ways I lessened the toxins in my life is by only using all natural anti aging skincare products. I can actually eat my skincare products! Can you say the same?
Here is my simple, yet effective all natural anti aging skincare routine on a typical day.
Morning
Cleansing
When I wake up in the morning I clean my face by applying castor oil, waiting a few minutes (brush my teeth and put on deodorant), and then wiping it off with a cotton round.
Even Skin Tone
Then, I apply Frankincense essential oil to the brown spots on my face and put 2 drops of the oil under my tongue. When you put anything under your tongue, it is immediately absorbed. Make sure the Frankincense you take is approved for internal use. Topically, Frankincense is known to rejuvenate skin and internally, it promotes cellular regeneration.
I find the Frankincense works best to lighten my spots when I apply it straight from the bottle. So I don’t dilute it with a carrier oil. I put about 3 drops into the palm of my hand and dab it on with my finger. I apply any remaining Frankincense in my hand to my crow’s feet. Make sure the Frankincense you use is able to be applied straight from the bottle as some have to be diluted.
Moisturize
Next, I apply a blend of Yarrow essential oil and cold-pressed Pomegranate seed oil. This is the best product I have ever used to moisturize my face! It also lifts and tightens my face and gets rid of my puffy eyes in the morning. As soon as I apply it, I have “glow from within” skin. I would take a bath in it if I could afford it!
The blend I have is bright blue which freaked me out at first. But within a minute or two it is completely absorbed into my face and does not leave any sort of blue tint. I use 2 drops on my forehead, 2 on my mid face, 2 on my lower face, and 2 on my neck. I also put 2 drops under my tongue. Again, make sure you have a blend that is approved for internal use.
Topically, this combination of yarrow and pomegranate revitalizes aging skin because it inhibits the enzymes that breakdown the skin’s elasticity and collagen. Internally, it supports a healthy inflammatory response and metabolic function.
Embalm
My third step is to apply Myrrh essential oil to my face. In Biblical times, Myrrh was a key ingredient used in the embalming process. If Myrrh can preserve a dead body, I am all about using it to preserve my face! Topically, Myrrh promotes smooth and young looking skin. A little Myrrh goes a long way. I only need 3-4 drops to cover my whole face and neck. Again, I don’t dilute the Myrrh with a carrier oil. I find it works better for me straight from the bottle. Because it tastes pretty bad, I only take Myrrh internally if I have a sore throat or teeth/gum issues. The one I use is safe for internal use (always be sure to check usage instructions for your essential oils).
Primer
My last step is to apply a makeup primer. If you don’t use primer, I am here to tell you that you should try it… especially if you’re over forty! It makes my makeup last all day. I alternate between 2 different brands of primers – Bare Minerals Good Hydrations and Jane Iredale Smooth Affair. The Jane Iredale is more expensive, but sometimes I can find a good price on eBay. Both products contain natural ingredients, are rated safe by EWG, and are healthy and hydrating for your skin. Although these products are all natural I am not sure if you can eat them, nor have I tried it. 🙂
Evening
In the evening, I follow almost the same routine as the morning. The only difference is, because I am not as rushed, I leave my castor oil on longer (at least 10 minutes, but an hour is great) when cleaning my face. Castor oil sucks out skin impurities and helps it to have that youthful glow. I also leave castor oil on my eyelashes and eyebrows while I sleep because it is great for making them thicker and longer. Next I apply:
- Frankincense topically and take 2 drops under my tongue.
- Yarrow essential oil and Pomegranate seed oil blend topically and take 2 drops under my tongue.
- Myrrh topically.
- Vitamin E oil on my lips.
Hope you will try this all natural anti aging skincare routine!
Note: For compliance reasons, I am not able to tell you on this blog which essential oil products I use or link you to them so that you can read about them for yourself. But if you want more information, please comment on this post and I am happy to tell you more about the oils I use and why.

Do you only use castor oil on your face? Do you “wash” it off with anything?
Hi Melissa – I use castor oil on my face and neck faithfully every day. I do not wash it off with anything. I just wipe away the oil/makeup with a cotton round. I know it sounds kind of disgusting. But you will see the makeup come right off on the cotton and my skin is way less dry since I’ve stopped using soap and have instead gone to oil cleansing. I am starting to use castor oil on my chest as well because I want to see if it will help some of my age/sun spots go away. But it’s a pain to put it on my chest because the castor oil is sticky and it gets on my clothes. So this is why I only use it on my chest on a hit or miss basis. But if I see it make my chest look less splotchy, I will be sure to blog about it. 🙂 Thanks so much for your question! Maureen
Excellent routine. Very doable.
Hi Milla – I’m glad you think the plan is realistic. That’s what I strive for. I’ve tried other plans with too many steps and then I don’t follow through and see results. 🙂 Thanks for reading! – Maureen
